Heading East

Walking East in the shadow of Canary Wharf I feel echos of America, of post-industrial suburbia, the urban sprawl, the concrete jungle, a cancerous expansion of urban mutation; with a dependence on the automobile.


What strikes me, aside from waves of depression, are the 'Spaces In Between' and it is these spaces that inspire me in my role as a landscape architect today; as one of responsibility and opportunity. To fill up these spaces with function and form, to breathe life into these pockets of potential and to be the antibodies that tackle the cancer.  But, this mutation cannot be stopped therefore it must be directed, guided, teased and tickled appropriately within a bigger vision, one of the 300 year mark...
