Crossrail and Wallasea Island

Above is the Crossrail Route connections map showing all stations and their links. It is intended as a local 'Metro' style service and is due for completion in 2017.  The spoil from the extensive network of tunnels will be transported by rail and ship to be deposited at Wallasea Island in Essex the largest wetland conservation and regeneration scheme in Europe. 'The aim of the project is to combat the threat from climate change and costal flooding by recreating the ancient wetland landscape of mudflats and saltmarsh, lagooons and pasture....to help compensate for the loss of such tital habitats elsewhere in England'.
